Advisory: Please ensure that undocumented individuals seek legal advice from immigration lawyers or United States Citizenship and Immigration Services/Board of Immigration Appeals-approved services (such as the Catholic Charities of Monterey). Any misinformation can compromise students' safety and chances at pursuing citizenship. Do not refer students to unapproved services such as notarios.

California Trust Act
The TRUST Act (AB 4) went into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. All counties in California must follow this law, which limits cruel and costly immigration "hold" requests in local jails. With TRUST, immigrant crime victims and witnesses will be able to come forward and cooperate with police without fear of deportation.
