April 9, 2021 For Immediate Release CCC-USS Awarded Funds for Emergency Relief for Undocumented Students and Students in Mixed Status Families who Live in San Luis Obispo County The Central Coast Coalition for Undocumented Student Success (CCC-USS) has been awarded $9,540 by the SLO UndocuSupport Fund to provide emergency financial assistance for undocumented students and students in mixed status families who live in San Luis Obispo County and who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19 and excluded from federal relief programs. CCC-USS was one of five local organizations serving undocumented and mixed-status residents throughout San Luis Obispo County awarded funds. The funds were donated by local individuals, public agencies, and foundations through the recently launched “SLO County UndocuSupport Fund” with the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. Founded in 2015, CCC-USS is a coalition of advocates and educators that seeks to create social change to ensure educational equity for all students and build capacity to support undocumented students in the region by challenging anti-immigrant and oppressive ideologies, institutional practices, and everyday actions that threaten undocumented and historically marginalized communities. “The Central Coast Coalition for Undocumented Student Success (CCC-USS) welcomes this opportunity to continue to provide direct support to San Luis Obispo’s most underserved and vulnerable communities. This funding will maintain the critical momentum our coalition has gained this past year and will help expand our support for undocumented students and students from mixed status families.” — CCC-USS Steering Committee Member, Adrienne Garcia-Specht CCC-USS will offer $500 emergency aid mini-grants to 18 undocumented students and students from mixed status families residing in San Luis Obispo County. Emergency financial assistance can be utilized for rental and utility payments, transportation, groceries, child care, and health needs to address educational challenges and other COVID-19 related financial hardships—including financial assistance for DACA applications/renewals and adjustment of status. Undocumented students and students from mixed status families attending a K-12 school, community college, or a CSU in San Luis Obispo County, or an advocate acting on their behalf, can apply for assistance after April 15, 2021.
