​FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties, California

The Central Coast Coalition for Undocumented Student Success (CCC-USS) is hosting a virtual college resource fair for undocumented students and families, which will include workshops about the college application and/or transfer process, financial aid information, and entrepreneurship. The resource fair will bring together college representatives from across the Central Coast including Cal Poly, Allan Hancock Community College, and Cuesta College. The Central Coast Coalition will also host  additional workshops in the weeks following the resource fair to provide further resources to students. These additional workshops will include Mental Health Resources, DACA Informational Workshops, and Know Your Rights presentations. All workshops will be held virtually through Zoom.

WHO WE ARE: The Central Coast Coalition for Undocumented Student Success (CCC-USS) is a collective of advocates and educators that challenges anti-immigrant and oppressive ideologies, institutional practices, and everyday actions that threaten undocumented and historically marginalized communities.

La Coalición de la Costa Central para el Éxito de los Estudiantes Indocumentados organizará una feria virtual de recursos universitarios para estudiantes
8 de enero de 2021 - San Luis Obispo - La Coalición de la Costa Central está organizando una feria virtual de recursos universitarios para estudiantes y familias indocumentados, que incluirá talleres sobre el proceso de transferencia a la universidad, información sobre ayuda financiera, y más. La feria de recursos reunirá a representantes de universidades de la costa central, incluyendo representantes de Cal Poly, Allan Hancock Community College y Cuesta College. La coalición también organizará talleres adicionales en las semanas posteriores para proporcionar más recursos a los estudiantes. Estos talleres adicionales incluirán recursos de salud mental, talleres informativos de DACA y presentaciones para conocer sus derechos. Todos los talleres se realizarán virtualmente a través de Zoom.

Session Descriptions

Transfer from Community College to CSU/UC
  • Description: Want to learn more about transfer opportunities for undocumented students? Join us and learn more about resources, become empowered, create a transfer support system and find out about transfer opportunities for undocumented students!
  • ¿Quieres aprender más sobre las oportunidades para estudiantes indocumentados que quieren transferirse a una universidad? Participa con nosotros en este taller y obtiene más información sobre los recursos académicos, alimenta tu  motivación, crea un sistema de apoyo y descubre las oportunidades de transferencia.
Scholarships 101:
  • Description: How to search and apply to scholarships, a 101 guide for undocumented students.  We will discuss how to effectively search for and obtain scholarships, including how to write compelling  scholarship essays. ​
Beyond DACA - Entrepreneurship Workshop:
  • Description: Leverage your skills, knowledge and experience to generate income- regardless of your immigration status.
Financial Aid Workshop:
  • Description: The financial aid workshop will discuss steps to filling out the California Dream Act, information about AB-540, and answer additional questions about financial aid available to undocumented students. All students and families are welcome to join. Presenters will also provide opportunities for one-on-one support for students that need personalized support. ​
